The opening of Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island and the hosting of the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix contributed to a dramatic surge in hotel guests staying in the emirate during November.

The month saw a 16% rise in guests staying in the emirate’s 162 hotels and hotel apartments compared to the same period in 2016, according to figures released by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi.

With 4.3 million hotel guests staying in accommodation across Abu Dhabi city, Al Ain Region and Al Dhafra Region in the first 11 months of the year, the emirate has witnessed 9% year-on-year growth and is on target to reach a record 4.9 million guests by the end of December.

Welcoming the latest rise in visitors to the emirate, HE Saif Saeed Ghobash, Director General, Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said: “While November and Q4 is traditionally a strong period for us, particularly with visitors from Europe, we are still highly encouraged by the sector’s performance during the month and the 16 per cent increase in hotel guests across all three regions to number 443,000 guests.”

During November, guests from the US increased by 50%, while the China, UK and Germany saw rises of 38%, 36% and 21% respectively. In total 443,636 guests stayed in the emirate, with 322,506 international visitors and 121,130 domestic visitors.

“Our annual events calendar across the emirate continues to develop and expand with November hosting another successful Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Abu Dhabi Art festival, National Day celebrations and the Fourth National Traditional Handicrafts Festival in Al Ain,” added Ghobash.  “The opening of Louvre Abu Dhabi was a monumental event, not only for Abu Dhabi but also for the whole of the country and indeed the region, contributing enormously to our appeal as a ‘must visit’ destination. The museum attracted worldwide attention and instantly became a huge draw for domestic and international visitors, which we anticipate will continue for many years to come.”

The museum’s opening on November 11, following close collaboration between the UAE and French governments spurred a 32% rise in French guests during the month compared to the same period in 2016 with further positive traction anticipated from the French market next year.

“These events are proving a draw to visitors who are seeking a blend of Arabian culture, heritage and excitement in a diverse and affordable destination. We expect a strong Q4 performance to round off a very successful year for Abu Dhabi’s tourism sector. We have challenges to address, such as increasing average length of stay of our guests and the occupancy rate, but we are constantly working on new initiatives and marketing to improve these figures.”

The number of guests increased across all three regions in November with Abu Dhabi city seeing a 16.8 per cent rise in its 131 hotels compared to November 2016, Al Ain Region increasing by 10.7% in its 20 hotels and Al Dhafra Region increasing by 15.3% in its 11 hotels.
China remains Abu Dhabi’s largest overseas source market with 334,000 Chinese guests staying in the emirate this year, a dramatic rise of 63%, which can be attributed to the lifting of visa restrictions and destination marketing campaigns taking place in major Chinese cities throughout the year.

India is the second largest supplier of international guests, rising almost 10% this year to number 320,000. The UK is Europe’s largest market, witnessing 12% growth to number 244,000 while the US and Saudi Arabian markets have also recorded growth compared to the previous year.

Three of the top ten tourist attractions are found in Heilongjiang province known as “Best Ice and Snow Land”.  Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival (the world’s largest ice and snow-themed event), which starts on January 5^th every year and lasts for two months, is unique to the city of Harbin and welcomes people from the whole world to take part in the carnival. On December 1, 2017, the Harbin – Singapore non-stop flight, which takes only 7 hours, was officially opened, bringing better access to the ice and snow world of Harbin.

Search for the origin of human skiing – Mount Aletai in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, whose altitude is between 2,000 and 3,500 meters, the internationally recognized best skiing range, and free from altitude stress. This is the “powder snow paradise” where skiers are flocking, and it boasts snowy scenery of Kanas Lake known as the “pure land of mankind”.

Mount Changbai in Jilin province, a ski resort in the same latitude zone as its world famous counterparts the Alps and Rocky Mountains, features the world’s highest volcano lake – Tianchi. In the winter, the water surface of the lake is pure white, embraced by 16 peaks around, with only one narrow gap between the Tianhuo Peak and Guanri Peak to form an amazing waterfall. From hot springs to the prairie, the winter of North China is fairly colorful. Nadam Fair, a winter event in Inner Mongolia and one of the most ethnically characteristic culture-oriented tourist events, embodies perfect fusion of grassland culture and snow resources. The typical Mongolian sports items such as archery, horse racing and wrestling will take place on the snow-capped grassland.

The secondary market, which has been southbound after the elections retreated below the threshold of 1,500 points during the review period. The last time the market index had closed at the current level was on November 23.  The country’s sole secondary market index fell for the third consecutive week by more than three per cent. The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index plunged by 48 points or 3.16 per cent to nearly a month low in the trading week between December 17 and 21.  Along with the Nepse index, the sensitive and float indices also dropped significantly. The sensitive index plunged by 10.71 points or 3.34 per cent to 309.94 points and the float index fell by 3.23 points or 2.97 per cent to 105.66 points in the week.

Hydropower group also plunged to 1,990.06 points, down 3.25 per cent or 66.77 points. Trading group fell by 6.25 points or 3.04 per cent to 198.99 points in the week. Similarly, the sub-index of insurance sector dropped by 294.40 points or 3.73 per cent to 7,600.44 points.  The sub-index of finance companies fell by 11.16 points or 1.47 per cent to 749.24 points in the week. Hotels also fell in the week by 29.58 points or 1.38 per cent to 2,116.67 points.

The secondary market remained splattered in red throughout the five days of the trading week. The market had opened at 1,520.15 points on Sunday and fell to 1,509.14 points by the time of closing. Similarly, the market descended to 1,508.25 points on Monday. On Tuesday, the market fell below 1,500 points and closed at 1,493.76 points. Continuing the same trend, the local bourse closed at 1,484.47 points on Wednesday and at 1,472.15 points on Thursday — the last trading day of the week.  “Margin lending has been affected because of tight liquidity condition in the banks and investor sentiment has also been affected by the possibility of interest rates rising,” Paudel said. “Moreover, delays in formation of a new government after the elections and the ongoing disputes among the political parties also affected the market movement.”

तर, समानुपातिकमा एमाले र कांग्रेसको मत झण्डै समान आएपछि एमाले एक्लै बहुमत नपुग्ने र माओवादी विना सरकार नबन्ने अवस्था आएको उनको विश्लेषण छ । यसका बाबजुद एमालेले संघीय फोरमसँग मिलेर सरकार बनाउने प्रयास गरेको प्रचण्डको दाबी छ । ‘त्यसैले अहिले राम्रा कुरा भएका छन् । पार्टी एकता जसरी पनि गर्ने हो भनेर आउनु भएको छ ।’ माओवादी अध्यक्ष प्रचण्डले आफूहरु भने पार्टी एकताबारे कुनै दुविधामा नरहेको दाबी गरे । आफ्नो प्रस्तावमा नै वाम गठबन्धन र एकता भएको भन्दै उनले त्यसलाई निष्कर्षमा पुर्‍याउने जिम्मेवारी आफ्नै भएको बताए । माओवादी अध्यक्ष प्रचण्डले वाम गठबन्धन तोड्न ठूलठूला अफर आएको सुनाए । प्रधानमन्त्री शेरबहादुर देउवाले समेत समर्थनको प्रस्ताव गरेको भन्दै भने, कांग्रेसका तर्फबाट ५ वर्ष माओवादी एक्लैको सरकार बनोस्, हामी समर्थन गर्छौं भन्ने आएको छ ।’  जनताले वाम गठबन्धनका लागि भोट दिएकाले आफू अन्यत्र नलाग्ने उनले बताए । ‘एमालेको बहुमत भएको भए के हुन्थ्यो भने प्रश्न त रहृयो ।
