GURUNG APPOINTED AS TOURISM REPRESENTATIVE FOR PORTUGAL

 Kiran Marahatta, New York :Government of Nepal has appointed RameshKumar Gurung, a renown businessman and NRNA ICC Member, as the Tourism Representative for Portugal. A decision that made last week by the Minister of Tourism had reached to appoint Tourism Representative for the Southern European state.

Government of Nepal has been appointing Tourism Representative in abroad with some specific criteria to promote tourism activities that aiming to increase the numbers of tourist in Nepal targeted a million every year. Government had picked RameshKumar Gurung among a dozen of contenders because of his strong track record in Portugal.

Gurung, the former President of Non-Resident Nepali Association Portugal for previous 2 consecutive terms, has been residing in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, which is known as the world’s elite touristic destination, since last 2 decades holding hotels, restaurant and property business. A Pokhara born business man who is the founder president of Tamu Society Portugal, is also renown for his social work that enhanced people to people relation between Portugal and Nepal. “Gurung is simply a genius social worker whose performance as the President of NRN Portugal was outstanding,” Said Jiba Lamichhane, the Chief Patron and former President of Non-Resident Nepali Association International Coordination Council. “He deserves it, and I am confident that he will contribute a lot to promote tourism in different ways.”-Added the German based Business tycoon.

Gurung had lunched massive campaign of fund raising when Nepal was bitterly damaged by the Gorkha Earthquake in 2015. He has been fighting for immigrant’s right and facilitate for a decade that supported establishment and expansion of Nepalese community in Portugal. He is a senior right activist who always fought against abuse and miss conduct of Nepalese immigrant worker. “His efforts are always intending to make our safe living in Portugal,” said Bishnu Paudel a senior journalist based in Lisbon.

Gurung has planned to lunch several activities to promote Nepal such as lunching media campaign, coordination with local agencies, interaction with experts and tourism fair.

“I would like to thank the government of Nepal for trusting me, I never let them down” said Gurung. “I will operate all of my connections and resources more efficiently to promote Nepal in Portugal” he add.

Government of Nepal has already established Its Consulate office in Lisbon in 2012, appointing a senior businessperson Makar Hamal as the consular, which has been promoting trade, investment, bilateral relation and has been addressing the problems facing by Nepalese community. More than 10 Thousand of Nepalese are residing in Portugal.
