Spectacular: The luckiest tourists in the world are currently on Reunion

Tourists and journalists currently on Reunion Island could be considered the luckiest travelers in the world. Not only are they witnessing the an answer to the biggest mystery in modern aviation (MH 371), but Saturday morning 9.50 am local time a fantastic scene unfolded after Piton de la Fournaise erupted. Tourists are lucky. Yes, it’s safe for tourists. Visitors should get ready to see something that is like a once in a life dream. Twitter, Instagram and Facebook already is having its own eruption with tourists and locals posting some of the most amazing photos. Tourists visiting this piece of paradise have a lot more than tropical beaches to write home about.

Reunion volcano, Piton de la Fournaise is known worldwide for its high activity. The volcano erupted for the third time in 2015. It is also one of the most studied volcanoes in the world, monitored closely by the international scientific community. The Piton de la Fournaise is indeed one of the most active volcanoes in the world. It is possible to observe volcanic activeties safely by following the instructions issued by the Prefecture and the gendarmerie.

It is safe to view, but local authorities are setting some ground rules and view points. Luckily the best position to watch is the Reunion National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Reunion tourism board is explaining to eTN how to get to the view points?

Allow about two km walk from Pas de Bellecombe, 30 to 45 minutes to access the perspective. The National Gendarmerie and the National Forestry Office (ONF) is responsible for ensuring the implementation of these security measures on the site.”

Scotland defeats Nepal by nine wickets

Scotland defeats Nepal by nine wickets

Kathmandu- Nepal’s batting fragility took a troll again in the 2nd match of ICC WCL Championship against Scotland as they were defeated by nine wickets after being restricted to a low total of just 167 runs, being invited to bat first at Ayr on friday.  Scotland chased 110 runs the 14th overs to record a nine wicket win in a rain shortened match as rain stopped several hours of play on Friday. Scotland were 15/0 in 1.4 overs when the play was stopped on Friday, and the match was resumed on Saturday with Scotland requiring 95 runs in 20.2 overs.  Sompal Kami struck in just the next over to put Scotland 20/1 in 2.2 overs but that wicket of Coetzer (7 runs) was just a consolation wicket. Matthew Cross went on to score a quick fire fifty to help Scotland chased 110 comfortably in the 14th over.

Earlier on Friday, Scotland won the toss and invited Nepal to bat fist. Nepal kept losing wicket since the start as none of the batsman crossed 40 runs mark, eventually being all out for just 167 runs in 49.1 overs. With match being called off for Friday, Scotland’ll will start the chase tomorrow on reserve day, if rain stays away, as per the ICC rules. With this win Scotland grabbed important 4 points from 2 matches in the ICC WCL Championship table, while Nepal’s miserable stay in Ireland, and Scotland came to an end with yet another miserable defeat. \

\Why rail will run through Nairobi National Park

\Why rail will run through Nairobi National Park

Unlike some members of the conservation community in Kenya, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), Dr. Richard Leakey, yesterday showed some remarkable maturity, when he jointly addressed the public with his colleagues of the Kenya National Land Commission and the Kenya Railways in regards to the planned construction of the track at the edge of the Nairobi National Park of the planned Standard Gauge Railway.

The matter under consideration had been used by certain conservationists to character assassinate the owner of the African Heritage House Mr. Alan Donovan, leveling a number of unfounded allegations against him, after the house plus museum was earlier this year declared a national monument. Kenya’s conservation godfather, Dr. Richard Leakey, however, clearly was of a different opinion when he, together with his two colleagues, issued a statement today in which the decision to allow the railway through the park was explained:

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) was approached some months back in early 2015 to grant access through the Nairobi National Park by the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), which is under construction. A number of meetings have been held between KWS, the Kenya Railways KR) and the National Land Commission (NLC) in an attempt to find a pragmatic solution which will, amongst other things, \A number of recommendations had been received on this subject in the past, vis-a-vis concessions to be extracted from government in regards to funding, land additions to Nairobi National Park, and commitments to keep the remaining migration routes open. No doubt Dr. Leakey will use his influence and standing with the government to negotiate the best possible outcome after demonstrating his sense of real politics and national interest in this particular case imposing himself and by his action superseding the interests of a small but admittedly vocal group not ready for compromise.
