Tourists looking to fulfill a bucket list item by driving down the famous Ventura Highway sung about in that “America” song, will want to make some alternate plans.  Given the name of the “Thomas Fire,” more than 50,000 acres have already been burned with little present hope for getting it under control due to the raging winds and warm, dry weather. The winds are also making it difficult for aircraft to assist as they cannot fly overhead in the current blustery conditions. Strong winds are stoking the wildfire that broke out yesterday in Southern California, and the Santa Ana winds are likely to make the fire threat even more dangerous. Thousands have been evacuated. It is not known how the fire started, but it was first reported in the early evening yesterday where it was seen close to Highway 150 north of Santa Paula where 30,000 people reside. There are over 109,000 who live in Ventura county. Smoke could be seen from outer space, covering hundreds of miles over Southern Pacific and out into the Pacific Ocean.
