China launch joint drill on anti-terrorism

Cambodia and China launched the second joint drill on counter-terrorism and humanitarian rescue at a training field in the Maras Prov Mountains on Saturday.  Some 280 soldiers of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) and 216 soldiers of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) are involved in the drill dubbed “Dragon Gold 2018,” which will last till March 31.

RCAF commander-in-chief Gen. Pol Saroeun said the exercise is part of the activities the two countries have organized to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries. “The exercise is vital to exchange experience and further strengthen bilateral cooperation on anti-terrorism and humanitarian work,” he said in a speech during the opening ceremony.  He said Cambodia highly values the drill with China which will importantly contribute to increasing capacity for the RCAF.

It will increase China-Cambodia readiness and responsiveness to challenges in the fight against terrorism and in the humanitarian tasks, he said. Zhang Jian, army commander of the Southern Theater Command of the Chinese PLA, said the exercise is designed to bolster cooperation and friendship between the two armies. The drill plays a very important role in further developing the relations between the two armies, he said in his opening speech. It will further enhance cooperation between the two countries on terrorism fighting and humanitarian rescue, and contribute to maintaining peace, stability and development in the two countries, the region, and the world, he added.  The participating troops will carry on training of professional subjects such as anti-terror equipment operating, live-fire practice, unarmed wrestle, simulated airborne landing, man hunting, searching and rescuing. Cambodia and China conducted the first joint drill in December 2016, focusing on humanitarian rescue and disaster relief at the Army Institute in southwestern Kampong Speu province.

Palestinian two kills Israelis in car attack

A Palestinian killed two Israelis and injured at least two other people in the West Bank, Reuters reported. The incident took place near the Jewish settlement of Mevo Dotan, west of the northern West Bank town of Jenin. The attacker was detained shortly after and was being treated for injuries, the station said. The Israeli military said in a preliminary report that the incident appeared to have been a car-ramming. Israel’s Army Radio said that witnesses described the incident as a deliberate ramming attack.  The participating troops will carry on training of professional subjects such as anti-terror equipment operating, live-fire practice, unarmed wrestle, simulated airborne landing, man hunting, searching and rescuing.

How this rising star in the bouldering world

There’s more than one way to the top. For a young Nina Williams, her intense desire to succeed as a climber—and fear of failure—nearly derailed her budding career. Back when she was 14, the ultra-competitive Williams forged a signature saying she’d completed a climb during a national qualifying bouldering competition. She got away with it, and kept forging, until several months later, when she finally got caught and was subsequently banned from competitions for a year. The shame was excruciating for a young climber who thrived on praise, but it also motivated her to come back stronger than ever. In the years since, Williams has quickly developed into one of the world’s best highball boulderers, meaning she specializes in climbing giant boulders with big consequences if she were to fall.

I started climbing at age 12, when my mom was like “Choose one activity. I can’t afford to keep driving you around all the time.”

I was naturally good at climbing right off the bat. I got to go into a gym with different puzzles to figure out. It was a different outlet for my energy, and people gave me all of this external validation. In the beginning, I loved climbing because someone else thought I was good at it.

Climbing made me feel strong. I knew I was strong because I could pull myself up the wall.

Going to nationals was this magical thing in my mind, but at regionals I didn’t have the confidence to think I could make it. You had to climb five routes and have two peers sign off on each problem. I snuck into a bathroom and forged initials. I didn’t get caught; they accepted the scorecard. When I later got caught, I had to write apology letters to several different groups. I was in a dark place, but I got back into climbing as fast as I could.

Looking back, if that hadn’t happened, I wouldn’t be the climber I am today.adidas1_nina-bigwall_h

Fast-forward to 2017, when Williams gained national recognition after becoming the first female to send Ambrosia, an iconic 55-foot, V11 route on the largest boulder in the Buttermilks, near Bishop, California. Nowadays, Williams is still chasing many of the world’s hardest bouldering routes and starting to think about multi-pitch climbs in spots like Yosemite. She also continues to grapple with her need for praise, working hard to ensure that she climbs for herself instead of anyone else.

I stayed on the team until I aged out, went to college, and stopped climbing for a bit. But I missed it. I felt really sad. I got back into it as fast as I could.

I’d cut pictures out of the climbing magazines that I got—Dave Graham, Chris Sharma, Alex Puccio—not knowing that some would become my best friends later on.

In climbing, you not only get to be outside, but also have a support system and a community. No matter where you are in the world, those people will understand you.

Everyone climbs for a different reason, everyone for different experiences. But we’re all connected by being able to move our bodies in the way and direction that we want.

There are times in our lives when we feel directionless. But if you climb, at least you can control your body up a wall. It may be so small and insignificant, but we can climb up a wall.

I moved from the East Coast to Greeley, Colorado, in 2010. Then from Greeley to Boulder in 2013. Moving to Boulder really impacted my climbing. Everyone there is motivated not just to climb for fun, but for performance. I hadn’t revisited that concept since my younger climbing days. But training and seeing noticeable gains in my climbing reawakened my competitive side.

I’ve primarily bouldered my whole climbing life. I’ve started highball bouldering—the really tall stuff—within the past five years.

I got into highballs because they’re dangerous and exciting. It requires a different skill set—a mental strength that I hadn’t yet honed. The point is to achieve that perfect flow state, but in order to achieve it, you have to go through the jarring, erratic uncertainties first.

Highballing is a subcategory of bouldering. It’s something people do on the side of bouldering. There is a small, small group that pursues highballing.

My first highball was V9 Footprints. It’s on the first boulder you see from the road going into the Buttermilks. I’d seen a picture and it looks really tall and scary. The hardest part is a move near the ground, with another 35 feet of 5.10 climbing. But when I saw it in person, it wasn’t as tall and scary as I had made it out to be.

Amerikan Kising Idal

The kiss occurred during an audition interview with Glaze in which he said he liked meeting girls at his job as a cashier in an electronics store.   Benjamin Glaze spoke to The New York Times about what he described as the “uncomfortable” kiss ― which happened to be his first kiss ever ― broadcast Sunday on the season premiere of the recently rebooted show. Glaze didn’t consent to the kiss and said he would’ve refused it if Perry had asked permission.  “I wanted to save it for my first relationship. I wanted it to be special,” Glaze, now 20, told the Times. “Would I have done it if she said, ‘Would you kiss me?’ No, I would have said no,” he said. He added that he didn’t feel sexually harassed by Perry in the audition, which was recorded earlier. “I know a lot of guys would be like, ‘Heck yeah!’ But for me, I was raised in a conservative family and I was uncomfortable immediately,” Glaze said. “I wanted my first kiss to be special.”

“Have you kissed a girl and liked it?” “American Idol” judge and country singer Luke Bryan asked, referencing Perry’s famous song from 2008. “No, I’ve never been in a relationship. I can’t kiss a girl without being in a relationship,” Glaze answered, as Perry’s eyes widened and she exclaimed, “Really?” “Come here,” Perry beckoned repeatedly as the other judges ― Bryan and singer Lionel Richie ― egged them on. Bryan got out his phone to take pictures, while Glaze, expressing disbelief, walked over to Perry. “What, on the cheek?” Glaze said, glancing back at the cameras before he kissed the singer on her cheek. “You didn’t even make the ‘smush’ sound,” she said, directing Glaze to give her a second kiss on the cheek. When he moved in to kiss her, Perry quickly turned her head and kissed him on the lips. Glaze, shocked and smiling, fell down.

Real Reason Brown Eggs Are More Expensive

If you ever find yourself in a confused stupor at your grocery store egg case, first of all, snap out of it. But you’re not alone, because there are a million confusing labels on egg cartons these days, and many of them mean nothing. Despite that, there’s one constant: brown eggs are almost always more expensive than white eggs. Surely, this means they’re organic, more nutritious, superiorly delicious and blessed by golden angels, right? Not necessarily. Everything you thought you knew about white eggs and brown eggs is about to get scrambled.

We talked to egg experts who addressed a number of canards about brown and white eggs, including the theory that eggshell color is based on the color of a chicken’s feathers (turns out that’s not entirely true), the nutritional difference between brown and white eggs, and how a chicken’s earlobes can determine the price of your eggs. Seriously. There’s a lot more to the incredible egg than you may have realized. Let’s get cracking, and address some of the folk wisdom.

True or false? White-feathered hens lay white eggs, and brown-feathered hens lay brown eggs.

NPR ruffled listeners’ feathers with a 2006 “All Things Considered” report suggesting that all white-feathered chickens lay white eggs, and all brown-feathered chickens lay brown eggs. Poultry-loving listeners lost their minds and bombarded the show with complaints of fowl play. Deana Jones, a research food technologist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, backs up those listeners. Though the feather theory can be true, it has its flaws. “Feather color does not necessarily denote eggshell color, because we have some white-feathered chickens that lay white-shell eggs, but we also have some that absolutely look like they walked through a bottle of bleach that lay brown-shell eggs,” Jones explained to HuffPost. Jacquie Jacob, from University of Kentucky’s department of animal and food sciences, pointed out a big exception to the theory. “[Some] breeds have different varieties with different feather colors, but they all lay the same color egg,” she told HuffPost. Leghorns, for example, can have white, brown or black feathers, “but they all lay white-shelled eggs.”

“The color of the shell is breed dependent,” Jacob said. “It is somewhat related to earlobe color, genetically speaking, in that most breeds with red earlobes lay brown-shelled eggs, and most with white earlobes lay white-shelled eggs.” And, in defense of the “All Things Considered” segment that upset so many, there is a close correlation between earlobe color and feather color, especially in commercial chickens. There are entire charts dedicated to explaining which breeds of hens produce which color eggs. Though many commercial hens have been bred so that white-feathered hens lay white eggs and brown-feathered hens lay brown eggs, there are a number of “boutique chicken” varieties, such as Araucana chickens, which lay eggs that range in color from green to blue. And of course, their feathers aren’t green or blue. “They have to hear,” Jones explained. “A chicken earlobe looks different from ours ― it’s not a human ear stuck on the side of a chicken ― but it still serves a purpose. Chickens are a tasty treat for some predators, so they need to be able to hear.” Backyard chicken enthusiasts disagree on whether a chicken’s earlobe is an accurate indicator of egg color. There’s even a forum on the BackYard Chickens website called “Please Everyone – Earlobe Color Has Nothing To Do With Egg Color.”

Search and rescue Iran plane crash

Source : BBC News : Officials told state media that the wreckage had been found, but an aviation spokesman said he could not confirm this. The Aseman Airlines passenger plane came down in the Zagros mountains on Sunday, and all 66 people on board are feared to have been killed. Hundreds of mountaineers with dogs and drones are trying to reach the site.

The searchers face bad weather conditions. Due to fog and strong winds, helicopters that were deployed for the search at dawn on Monday have had to be grounded, a Red Crescent official told local media.

And on Sunday, teams had to stop work altogether due to winds and snow. The ATR 72-500 twin-engine turboprop was travelling from Tehran to the south-western city of Yasuj. Flight EP3704 left Tehran at 04:30 GMT on Sunday, and crashed about an hour later in the Mount Dena area, about 22km (14 miles) from its destination.

On Monday officials from the region told news channels rescuers had reached the site.

But both channels – IRINN and English-language Press TV – said they could not confirm the reports independently, and a civil aviation spokesman told Reuters news agency the reports could not be confirmed. The crashed plane was 25 years old, Iran’s civil aviation organisation said. Sixty passengers, two security guards, two flight attendants and the pilot and co-pilot were on board. Following the crash, the airline initially said that all on board had died, but later on Sunday said that it could not confirm this as no-one had reached the site.

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani expressed sympathy for all involved, saying in a statement that the incident brought “great grief and sorrow”. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the accident “saddened the hearts”.  Iran has suffered several aviation accidents in recent years and has an ageing aircraft fleet. The country has struggled to obtain spare parts to maintain its planes in the face of international sanctions imposed to curb its nuclear programme. Those sanctions have been mostly lifted under a 2015 deal between Iran and the US alongside several other powers.
